The President of the Republic attended, in the First National Bank Stadium, in Soweto, Johannesburg, the official funereal ceremonies that the Republic of South Africa organized in memoriam of former President Nelson Mandela, who passed away on 5 December.
Together with many other worldwide Heads of State and of Government, as well as leaders of international institutions, President Cavaco Silva attended the public tribute, where many thousands of South Africans were also present.
The President of the Republic was accompanied in the official funereal services by the Minister of State and Foreign Affair, Dr. Rui Machete.
