Palace of Belém open to the public on 5 October hosts more than 12,000 visitors

To celebrate the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Republic, the Palace of Belém was once again open to the public, receiving throughout the whole day more than 11,000 visitors who attended the several events.

Military bands from the three branches of the Armed Forces (Army, Navy and Air Force), Traditional “Salsas and Ousilhão Masks and Bragança Pipers, Project Amália, Setúbal Contemporary Dance Academy, La Farse Manouche (jazz), Rita Guerra, Ana Moura and Carminho, were the succeeding features performed outside and inside the Palace, together with an exotic bird show in the Garden of the Waterfall.

A contemporary Art Exhibition, “1 Century, 10 Pencils, 100 Drawings: Viarco Express” was on show in the Gallery of the Cages, located in the Patio dos Bichos, and will be open to the public until mid-November

The traditional Solemn Changing of the Guard of Honour to the Palace of Belém took place at 15:00 hours, in Afonso de Albuquerque Square.

The 5th October events also closed the celebrations of the 5th anniversary of the Museum of the Presidency of the Republic, which had already brought to the Palace of Belém, between 1 and 4 October, more than 4,000 visitors
