The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of Dr. Diogo Vasconcelos.
Following is the text of the message addressed by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:

“Upon having received the sad news of the sudden passing away of Diogo Vasconcelos, I address the bereaved Family y feelings of deepest regret.

Diogo Vasconcelos very early distinguished himself in public life due to his dynamism, pioneering and visionary spirit, as one of the most promising youths of his generation. Inspired by the potential in the new technologies of the knowledge and information society, his ambition was to place Portugal at the vanguard of technological entrepreneurship. He dreamed of a better Country and dedicated all the strength of his will to the service of such an ideal.

His premature passing away left us extremely shaken, especially those who were closely acquainted with his extraordinary capabilities, recognized both nationally and internationally. His sudden disappearance, at a time when all of life’s promises were opening up for him, confounds us and queries us as to the significance of terrestrial existence. Portugal lost today one of its greater talents.
