Ceremony in Coruña
The President of the Republic and King Felipe VI of Spain took part, in Coruña, in the award ceremony of the 2015 Atlantic Axis Gold Medals of the Peninsular Northeast.
Portuguese nationals José Palma Andrés, former European Union Cooperation Director, and José Soeiro, President of the Agency for Development and Cohesion, as well as Carlos Beltrán, former consultant to the Spanish Minister of Finance, were the individuals who were distinguished in a ceremony held in Rosalia Castro Theatre in that Galician city.
The medals were given by President Cavaco Silva and by King Felipe VI, both of whom addressed speeches at the ceremony.
President and Mrs. Cavaco Silva and the Spanish Sovereigns, Felipe and Letizia later attended, in the Coruña Municipal Palace, a reception hosted to celebrate the award of the Atlantic Axis medals, in which were present all the Mayors of the North of Portugal and the Alcaldes of Galicia, who comprise that regional organization.
Prior to this the Spanish Sovereigns had invited the Portuguese Presidential couple for a private lunch in a Coruña restaurant.
