Ceremony in Município Square
The President of the Republic took part, in Município Square, Lisbon, in the commemorative ceremonies of the centenary of the establishment of the Republic, having raised the National Standard from the veranda of the City Hall and then delivering a speech. This was followed by a march past of the forces of the National Republican Guard on parade.
Upon arriving at Município Square, Presidente Aníbal Cavaco Silva received military honours.
Prior to the speech addressed by the President of the Republic, addresses were also delivered by the Mayor of Lisbon, Dr. António Costa, and by Ana Lídia Sampaio Dias, from Maia, the young woman who won the competition “The Republic – my 2010 speech”, promoted by the National Committee for the Commemorations of the Anniversary of the Centenary of the Republic.
