Award ceremony of the 2008 Bial Prizes
The President of the Republic presided at the award ceremony of the 2008 Bial Prizes which was held in the Institute of Molecular Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine.
A research work on neurodegenerative diseases, carried out by Prof. Miguel Castelo-Branco, was awarded the Bial Grand Prize for Medicine.
The Bial Prize for Clinical Medicine was awarded to the work entitled “A new vision of inflammatory rheumatic diseases: an example of the interaction of cellular and molecular biology with clinical procedure”, led by Prof. Doctor João Eurico Fonseca, director of the Rheumatology Research Unit in the Institute of Molecular Medicine.
The jury of the 2008 Bial Prizes was presided by neurosurgeon Prof. Doctor João Lobo Antunes, President of the Institute of Molecular Medicine.
Later, President Cavaco Silva visited laboratory of Clinical Immunology, the Malaria Unit and the Techno Phage Laboratory, departments of the referred Institute.
