The President of the Republic received the President of the Democratic Republic of East Timor, José Ramos Horta, on his first official visit to Portugal.
Having laid a wreath of flowers on the tomb of Luiz Vaz de Camões, in the Jerónimos Monastery, President Ramos Horta was received with military honours on arrival at the Palace of Belém, following which he met with President Aníbal Cavaco Silva.
At the end of the meeting both Presidents spoke to the journalists, followed by lunch with his counterpart hosted by President Cavaco Silva.
