Visit to the Alfeite Naval Docks
The President of the Republic visited two Navy vessels and the School of Naval Technologies, in the Alfeite Lisbon Naval Docks, to attend the Distex (Disaster Relief) Exercise, which simulated a series of support operations in operations of civil protection and personal aid, on land, in immediate response to emergency situations resulting from natural catastrophes.
During the visit, on board frigates “D. Francisco de Almeida” and “Álvares Cabral”, President Cavaco Silva witnessed the capabilities of both vessels, when in support situations to communities at risk, following natural disasters.
The visit was then extended to cover a model town set up in the Naval Docks, where exercises corresponding to real situations were carried out.
The President of the Republic was accompanied by the Assistant Secretary of State for National Defence, Dr. Berta Cabral, and by the Chiefs of Staff of the three Branches of the Armed Forces.
