Nations Security Council
The President of the Republic presided, in New York, at the first open debate meeting of the UN Security Council, during the Portuguese presidency of this body of the United Nations.
With the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon at his side, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva chaired the meeting for approximately one hour, having previously delivered an address in Portuguese, which is not an official language of the United Nations Organization.
Portugal holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council during the current month of November.
