President Cavaco Silva sent condolences to the Family of José Hermano Saraiva

The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of Jurist and Historian José Hermano Saraiva.

Following is the text of the message of condolences from President Cavaco Silva:

“Upon being advised of the passing away of Prof. José Hermano Saraiva, I address the bereaved Family my heartfelt condolences.

Jurist and Historian, José Hermano Saraiva contributed, as few did, towards acquainting the Portuguese with their country’s History.

Thanks to his exceptional gifts as a communicator, he established a very special empathy with several generations, thus becoming a popular disseminator of our History and Culture.

His writings enjoyed great success, and during several years he produced televised programmes that always attracted the interest of vast audiences.

José Hermano Saraiva was, above all, a Portuguese who loved his Fatherland. For this reason we should all pay tribute to his memory, which will last forever amongst us.

Aníbal Cavaco Silva
