Military University Institute
The President of the Republic presided, in the Military University Institute, in Lisbon, at the farewell ceremony that the Armed forces organized for their Supreme Commander.
Present in the ceremony, which included many military and civilian bodies, were the Minister of National Defence, the Armed Forces Chief of General Staff, and the Chiefs of General Staff of the Army, Navy and Air Force.
President Cavaco Silva received, during the ceremony, a memento offered by the Military Chiefs: a sword of each of the Branches, symbols of Command, Authority and Honour.
After the military march past, the President of the Republic was hosted at luncheon by the High Commands of the three Branches of the armed Forces.
During the military ceremony speeches were delivered by the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, General Artur Pina Monteiro, and by the President of the Republic, who addressed for the last time, as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, the men and women who serve in the Military Institution.
