Café Poetry in Belém

Authors, actors and vocalists celebrated the World Poetry Day in the Palace of Belém

In a soirée held with the motto “The word can become a world”, authors, actors and vocalists strode through the stage installed in the Palace of Belém, celebrating the World Poetry Day, in a programme organized by Mrs. Cavaco Silva.

The Café Poetry carried out in the Hall of Fountains, with the presence of the President of the Republic and many persons of note from the cultural area, included on the spot performances by several guests, who declaimed their own or other authors’ writings.

The cast, in the soirée of this World Poetry Day, included writers and poets such as Nuno Júdice, Francisco José Viegas, Inês Fonseca Santos, João Luis Barreto Guimarães, Leonor Xavier and Pedro Rapoula, actresses Eunice Muñoz, Ana Zanatti and Dalila do Carmo, as well as vocalists Maria Ana Bobone, Túlipa Ruiz from Brazil, Celina Pereira, from Cape Verde, and many musicians.

Since the World Day of Down Syndrome was also being celebrated on this date, Café Poetry also had the presence of young Afonso Cardoso who declaimed a poem by Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen.

Laurinda Alves presented the soirée and all the players accepted performing for free.

As in prior years, the 2012 edition of the Poetry Evening in the Palace of Belém was recorded on a CD, presented on this occasion, and profits from its sale will fully revert to the Sisters of the Poor, in Lisbon.
