New Ambassadors accredited in Portugal
The President of the Republic received letters credential from the new Ambassadors in Portugal.
Ceremony in the Palace of Belém
The President of the Republic bestowed the title of Honorary Member of the Order of Public Education on the Portuguese Scouts Association, on the occasion of the celebration of their one hundredth anniversary, in a ceremony held in the Palace of Belém.
Ceremony in the Castle of St. George
The President of the Republic presided, jointly with the Aga Khan, at the award ceremony of the Aga Khan Prize for Architecture, which was held in the Castle of St. George, in Lisbon, during which President Cavaco Silva delivered a speech.
Aga Khan received in Belém
The President of the Republic received, in the Palace of Belém, the Aga Khan, who is visiting Portugal to attend the award ceremony of the Aga Khan Prize for Architecture.
The President of the Republic will carry out a State Visit to Sweden, at the invitation of His Majesty King Charles XVI Gustaf of Sweden, between 1 and 3 October next. The programme of the Visit includes the cities of Stockholm, Malmö and Lund.
Prizes awarded to Nepalese institutions
The President of the Republic presided, in the headquarters of the Champalimaud Foundation, in Lisbon, at the award ceremony of the 2013 António Champalimaud Vision Prize, which distinguished, in this edition, four Nepalese institutions, an example of success in the collaboration for the provision of ophthalmologic health care to the needy people of Nepal, who are lacking in financial conditions and access to treatment of blindness.

The President of the Republic empowered, as a member of the Council of State, the Ombudsman, Prof. Doctor José Francisco de Faria Costa, whom he later received in audience.
Ceremony in the Palace of Belém
The President of the Republic empowered, in the Palace of Belém, the Secretary of State for the Treasury, Dr. Maria Isabel Cabral de Abreu Castelo Branco.
The President of the Republic sent a congratulatory message to athletes Emanuel Silva and João Ribeiro on becoming world Kayak champions in the K2 500 metres competition, held in Duisburg, Germany.
Following is the text of the message sent by President Cavaco Silva:
For the fifth time, in this month of August, we have been faced with the death of firemen in the course of their duties.
Firewoman Cátia Pereira Dias, from the Fire Services Corporation of Carregal do Sal, passed away this morning when fighting a fire in the Caramulo hills. In this same fire fight other firemen and members of the GNR security services were injured, two of them seriously affected.
Equally today, four firemen suffered burns, two of them also seriously affected, in a fire in Vila Nova de Foz Coa; and in another fire, in Valença, a fireman was seriously injured.
In the dawn of 27 August, Bernardo Figueiredo, belonging in the Estoril Fire Services Corporation, passed away, having suffered serious injuries in a fire in the Caramulo hills. In this same fire and in the same fire fighting operation, practically at the side of Bernardo Figueiredo, firewoman Ana Rita Pereira, from the Alcabideche Fire Services Corporation, also suffered death.
