I was deeply moved by the news of the passing away of the ex-President of the European Commission, Gaston Thorn.

It was with great regret that I received the news of the passing away of Gaston Thorn.
Upon receiving the news of the victory obtained in the triple jump in the Athletics World Championship which is being held in Osaka, I hasten to congratulate you for the extraordinary result you achieved. This Gold Medal is, undoubtedly, the outcome of assiduous training and perseverance, essential factors for success in sports events.
Deeply distressed with the passing away of Eduardo Prado Coelho, I address my deepest condolences to his family and render tribute to the notable work he carried out on behalf of our culture and civic life.

Upon receiving for enactment as law Parliamentary Decree No. 150/X, which approves the terms of extra-contractual third party liability of the State and remaining public bodies, I took the decision, in the terms of item b) of article No. 134 and article No. 136 of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, not to enact it on the following grounds:

1. The President of the Republic took the decision to send back to Parliament, today, Decree No. 150/X which “Approves the terms of extra-contractual third party liability of the State and remaining public bodies”, requesting that the same be subject to reappraisal.

Upon receiving the sad news of the bereavement of Prof. Doctor Lúcio Craveiro da Silva, I wish to emphasize his important contribution for the development and projection of higher education in the North of Portugal.
