Visit to the equitable bank
The President of the Republic attended the inaugural ceremony, in Lisbon, of the Bank of Donated Goods, and visited the storage facilities of the institution.
Monte Real Air Force Base welcomed the President
The President of the Republic visited Air Force Base No. 5, in Monte Real, for the launching of the air policing operation by a detachment of the Air Force over the Baltic Sea, with a contingent of 4 F-16 aircraft and 170 personnel, during two periods of time.
The President of the Republic received, in audience, the Attorney General of the Republic, Councillor Fernando Pinto Monteiro.
Ceremony in the Alqueva Dam
The President of the Republic, Mrs. Cavaco Silva and the Princes of Asturias took part in the ceremony where the International Prize “Puente de Alcântara” was awarded to the Alqueva Dam, and later presided at the inaugural ceremony of the Memorial Sculpture of the Hydroelectric Power Plant of the Multipurpose Alqueva Undertaking.
Visit of Felipe and Letizia
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva received the Princes of Asturias, D. Felipe de Borbón and Letizia, in Beja, where the party visited the Church of Our Lady of Prazeres and the Diocesan Museum. The President and Mrs. Cavaco Silva then assisted, in the City Hall, to the presentation of the Keys of the City of Beja to the royal visitors.
Inaugural ceremony
The President of the Republic attended today, in the Fatima Sanctuary, the inaugural ceremony of the Church of the Holy Trinity.
Global warming is a central issue to our time and our decisions will have unequivocal repercussions over the following generations. I am thus extremely pleased with the award of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize to the Intergovernmental Panel for Climatic Change (IPCC) and to Al Gore.
Following an invitation addressed by the President of the Republic of Chile, Mrs. Michelle Bachelet, the President of the Republic, accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Cavaco Silva, will carry out an Official Visit to that Country, on 7 and 8 November next.
