President addresses the People of Portugal on the first day of the New Year
The President of the Republic addressed a New Year Message to the People of Portugal.
Mister President,
I was deeply moved when being advised of the tragic attempt that victimized Mrs. Benazir Bhutto and other defenceless persons. The search for national reconciliation and the consolidation of the democratic process will be the best answer that can be given to the performers of this heinous act.
Christmas Concert in the CCB
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva attended the Christmas Concert in the Belém Cultural Centre (CCB), performed by the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra, directed by Maestro Pedro Carneiro, and by the Voces Caelestes choir.

The staff of the Presidency of the Republic and their families’ attended a Christmas Party held in the Palace of Belém, which included a performance by the pupils of the Ballet School of the National Conservatory and the musical group "The Gift".
In the terms of the Constitution of the Republic and of the legislation currently in force, the President of the Republic received today the Minister of Justice for the award of the traditional reprieves at this time of the year.
