The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva hosted a banquet in honour of the King and Queen of Norway in Ajuda National Palace, at the beginning of which speeches were addressed by both President Aníbal Cavaco Silva and King Harald V.
Arrival alongside the Tower of Belém
King Harald V and Queen Sonia of Norway commenced a State Visit to Portugal at the invitation of the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva. The Norwegian monarchs came ashore from the Royal Yacht “Norge" in the Princess Dock, alongside the Tower of Belém, where the King of Norway received military honours.
Prize awarded to researcher Irene Pimentel
President Cavaco Silva attended the ceremony of the award of the 2007 Pessoa Prize to the researcher Irene Pimentel, which was held in the Military Museum, in Lisbon.
Having learnt of the victory obtained in the Triathlon World Cup Competition held in Madrid, I wish to congratulate you for the extraordinary result you achieved. This Gold Medal is, undoubtedly, the result of much work and dedication, crucial factors for success in sports.
On behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, I offer sincere condolences to the family of Artist and Professor Bartolomeu Cid dos Santos.

Clinical software company in Porto
The President of the Republic officially opened the new facilities of “ALERT”, in Vila Nova de Gaia. Founded in 1999, this company is dedicated to the development, distribution and implementation of clinical software, aiming to create paperless clinical environments. This company was awarded the 2007 COTEC Innovation Prize.
Visit to companies headquartered in the new building
Cavaco Silva officially opened the new building of PROMONET – headquarters of NET (New Enterprises and Technologies), installed in the Porto technology nucleus, in Ramalde, where a centre for company incubation is also available.
Lunch in Porto
During the Route to Science, the President of the Republic met, in a discussion lunch, held in the Porto University Circle, a group of researchers and entrepreneurs of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.
President tested innovations
In the Porto Graduate Institute of Engineering (ISEP), integrated in the Porto Polytechnic Institute, President Cavaco Silva assisted at a presentation of R&D and entrepreneurial innovation activities of this establishment, after which he visited the Research Centre on Reliable Systems and Real Time (CISTER), the Research Group in Knowledge Engineering and Decision Support (GECAD) and the Laboratory of Autonomous Systems (LSA).
