Ceremony in Campo d'Agonia
The President of the Republic attended, in Campo da Senhora d'Agonia, in Viana do Castelo, the Military Ceremony celebrating the National Day of Portugal, Camões and Portuguese Communities, in which the three branches of the Armed Forces were involved.
Banquet on the occasion of the National Day
On the occasion of the celebrations of the National Day of Portugal, Camões and Portuguese Communities, the President of the Republic hosted a banquet in the Pousada de Santa Luzia, in Viana do Castelo, in honour of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Portugal, from whom he received ceremonial greetings. The event also included Ministers and high officers of the State.
Performance in Sá de Miranda Theatre
Poet Pedro Homem de Mello was honoured in Sá de Miranda Theatre, in Viana do Castelo, in a concert performed by singer Kátia Guerreiro and the Symphony Orchestra of the city’s Professional School of Music, directed by maestro Rui Massena, which was attended by the President of the Republic, as a part of the programme of the Celebrations of the National Day of Portugal.

Tribute paid in the Former City Council
In a formal act which took place in the former Viana do Castelo City Council, the President of the Republic was honoured with a Ceremonial Welcome, marking the holding in the city of the Celebrations of the National Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities.
COTEC prize for Innovatory Entrepreneurship in the Portuguese Diáspora
In a ceremony held in the Viana do Castelo Municipal Library, the President of the Republic awarded the COTEC Prize for Innovatory Entrepreneurialism in the Portuguese Diaspora, which was attributed this year for the first time to two Portuguese citizens resident in the United States of America and in Australia, respectively Carlos de Mattos and Fernando Ferreira.
Meeting with Portuguese employed in their areas
Continuing the programme of the Celebrations of the National Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, the President of the Republic hosted, in Viana do Castelo Municipal Library, a lunch in honour of individualities who achieved distinction in Portugal and abroad in the pursuit of their Professional activities.
In an already traditional gesture included in the programme of the celebrations of the National day of Portugal, the President of the Republic addressed, from Viana do Castelo and through the media, a message to all the Portuguese Communities spread around the world.
The President of the Republic visited the former hospital-ship "Gil Eannes", now a museum, viewing the educational rooms, navigating simulator, bridge, treatment and consulting rooms, kitchen and other facilities installed in that unit, which was used as a support ship for cod fishing, and is currently also a youth hostel.
In the first event of the programme of the Celebrations of the National Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, which are being held in Viana do Castelo, the President of the Republic visited the Church of São Domingos and Convent of the Holy Cross, where he laid a wreath on the tomb of Frei Bartolomeu dos Mártires, an archbishop and founder of that temple.
