Communiqué
1. The President of the Republic decided today to send back to Parliament Decree No. 232/X which approves the Juridical Regime of Divorce, requesting that it be subject to reappraisal, based upon the lack of protection of the spouse who is placed in a weaker position – generally the wife – as well as that of the under age progeny, to which, in practice, the legislation can lead to, as is outlined in the message sent to Members of Parliament.
Upon being advised of the decease of Dr. Levy Mwanawasa, President of the Republic of Zambia, the President of the Republic addressed the following message of condolences to the Vice-President of that Country.

The President of the Republic took pride with the success of the athlete Vanessa Fernandes in the triathlon competition in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and addressed her a congratulatory message.
Meeting in Lisbon
The President of the Republic took part, in Lisbon, in the Star Tracking Encounter – The Talent Odyssey, during which he addressed the meeting.
Presidential communiqué
The President of the Republic addressed the Country with regard to the Politico-Administrative Charter of the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
Ceremony in Belém
The President of the Republic decorated, with the Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator, the former Executive Secretary of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries, Ambassador Luís Fonseca, who recently terminated his duties.
Ceremony in the Jerónimos Monastery
The President of the Republic and his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, took part in the ceremony where the Camões Prize was awarded to the Portuguese author António Lobo Antunes, which was held in the Jerónimos Monastery, Lisbon.
Conclusions made public
Portugal took up the rotating presidency of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), during the VII Conference of Heads of State and of Government of the organization, which was held in Lisbon.
Opening ceremony of the Conference
The VII Conference of Heads of State and of Government of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), which is being held in Lisbon, was officially opened by the President of the Republic, who delivered a speech on the occasion.
Fernando Piedade dos Santos received in Belém
The President of the Republic received, in audience, the Prime-Minister of the Republic of Angola, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.
