Casa de Mateus
At a ceremony held in Casa de Mateus, Vila Real, the President of the Republic delivered the D. Dinis Prize to Manuel Alegre, an award attributed to him by the Casa de Mateus Foundation.
Project “Friendly Council”
In the beginning of a visit to Trás-os-Montes, the President of the Republic was welcomed in the Vila Real County Council where the Mayor, Manuel Martins, introduced him to the Project "Friendly Council".
In its today’s editions, newspapers Diário de Notícias and Jornal de Notícias, referring to statements made by the Minister of Internal Affairs in Parliament, asserted that this member of the Government had considered the President of the Republic responsible for alleged delays in the enactment of the Organic Law of the National Republican Guard.

Presentation of Letters of Credence
The President of the Republic received the letters credence of the new Ambassadors to Portugal.
Ceremony in the Jerónimos Monastery
The President of the Republic presided at the award ceremony of the 2008 António Champalimaud Vision Prize, which was held in the Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon, where he delivered a speech.
On behalf of all the Portuguese and in my own personal name I wish to congratulate athletes João Paulo Fernandes and António Marques for the results obtained today in the Beijing 2008 Paralympics.
Audience in Belém
The President of the Republic received, in audience, the Officers of the Aristides de Sousa Mendes Foundation.
President Aníbal Cavaco Silva had the opportunity to personally contact the President of the Republic of Angola, Eng. José Eduardo dos Santos, and to transmit how pleased he was with the extremely important step that the Angolan parliamentary elections meant for the consolidation of the democratic institutions of the Country, in a framework of political pluralism, and for a future of peace, prosperity and economic and social development of the Angolan People, with whom Portugal and the Portuguese feel particularly linked.
Concert by Mariza
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva hosted a fado concert by the Portuguese songstress Mariza, in honour of the Slovakian Presidential couple, Ivan and Silvia Gasparovic.
