Welcome ceremony in Bellevue Palace
Marking the beginning of the State Visit to Germany, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva were received in a welcome ceremony in Bellevue Palace, by the German President, Horst Köhler, and his wife.
Arrival in the German capital
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva have arrived in Berlin where, on Tuesday, they begin a four day State Visit to Germany at the invitation of President Horst Köhler. Courtesy Ranks and a 21 gun salute signalled the presence of the Portuguese Head of State in Tegel Airport.
The President of the Republic decided not to enact the decree that approves the Law on Pluralism and Non Media Concentration.

Prize for Innovative Entrepreneurship in the Portuguese Diaspora
The President of the Republic addressed Portuguese talent in the Diaspora, through The Star Tracker social network, to request the dissemination of the Prize for Innovative Entrepreneurship in the Portuguese Diaspora. The message sent was as follows:
Union of Portuguese Mutual Societies received in Belém
The President of the Republic received, in audience, the new Officers of the Union of Portuguese Mutual Societies.
The President of the Republic signed today the despatches appointing Doctor António Barreto as President of the Organizing Commission of the Celebrations of the National Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, and designated the city of Santarém as host of the 2009 Celebrations.
Audience in Belém
The President of the Republic received, in audience, the President of the Regional Government of the Azores, Dr. Carlos César.
At the invitation of the President of the Republic, the President of the Republic of Angola, Eng José Eduardo dos Santos, will carry out a State Visit to Portugal on 10 and 11 March next.
