At the end of the first day of the State Visit to Turkey, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva were honoured with a banquet hosted by the Turkish President, Abdullah Gül, and Mrs. Hayrünnisa Gül, in the Presidential Palace.
Meeting with Deniz Baykal
Continuing his State Visit to Turkey, the President of the Republic granted an audience to the leader of the main Turkish opposition party, Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (CHP), Deniz Baykal.

In the first political encounter of his State Visit to Turkey, the President of the Republic received, in Ankara, the Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Erdogan.
Arrival in Ankara
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva arrived in Ankara on the start of a four day State Visit to the Republic of Turkey at the invitation of the Turkish President, Abdullah Gül.
The President of the Republic sent a message of congratulations to the Portuguese Team that won the Soccer 7 Special Olympics European Championship.

EMCDDA Conference
The President of the Republic took part in the closing ceremony of the International Conference of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction – EMCDDA, subject to the theme “Identifying European information needs for an effective drug policy, which was held in the Lisbon Conference Centre.
Reception in Belém
Within the scope of the coming State Visit to the Republic of Turkey, the President of the Republic received in the Palace of Belém, a group of Turkish students currently in Portugal integrated in the ERASMUS Programme.
