Parade in Campo Infante da Câmara
The President of the Republic took part, in Campo Infante da Câmara, Santarém, in the Military Ceremony commemorative of the National Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, which involved the three Branches of the Armed Forces.
Laying a wreath of flowers
Before the beginning of the Military Ceremony celebrating the National Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, the President of the Republic rendered tribute, in Santarém, to Lieutenant-Colonel Salgueiro Maia, laying a wreath of flowers on the monument erected in memory of this officer. Salgueiro Maia’s widow attended the ceremony.

The President of the Republic hosted, in São Francisco Convent, Santarém, a banquet to the individualities invited to assist at the Commemorations of the National Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities.
Greetings ceremony
On the occasion of the National Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, the President of the Republic received, in Santarém, greetings from the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Portugal. The ceremony took place in the former Military Cavalry School.
Concert by Rodrigo Leão
On the occasion of the National Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, which is being celebrated in Santarém, the President of the Republic hosted, in Santa Clara Convent, a concert of Portuguese music by Rodrigo Leão, in honour of the individualities invited to attend the commemoration ceremonies.
Exhibition in Santarém
Extra to his participation in the commemoration of the National Day of Portugal, in Santarém, the President of the Republic visited the National Agricultural Fair, which was being held in the National Exhibition Centre (CNEMA).
Luncheon in Casa da Alcáçova
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva hosted luncheon in Casa da Alcáçova, Santarém, in honour of individualities considered as outstanding in their professional activities both in Portugal and abroad.
Ceremonial Session
The President of the Republic received the Gold Medal of the City of Santarém, in a Welcoming Ceremony held in the Main Hall of the County Council Building. An allusive plaque was unveiled to signal the event.
Through the streets of Santarém
In the beginning of the programme of the commemorations of the National Day of Portugal, of Camões and the Portuguese Communities, which this year are being held in Santarém, the President of the Republic presided at the inaugural act, in the city’s Cathedral, of the Exhibition “Portugal 12.21 - Identity”, organized by the Museum of the Presidency of the Republic.
The President of the Republic decided not to enact the Parliamentary decree altering the Law that governs the funding of political parties and electoral campaigns.
