Statements to the media
Extraneous to the visit of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain to the Madeira Autonomous Region, the President of the Republic made a statement concerning the attempt in Majorca, Spain, and answered questions from the journalists with respect to the decision of the Constitutional Court regarding the Azores Political and Administrative Charter.
A private moment at the beginning of the visit
On the first day of the visit of the King and Queen of Spain to the Madeira Autonomous Region, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva hosted a private dinner to Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofia, before which the two couples posed for the many media photographers which accompanied this royal tour.
Arrival in Funchal
The Spanish Monarchs, Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofia, were welcomed in Funchal by the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva, at the start of a three day Official Visit to the Madeira Autonomous Region.
The President of the Republic sent a congratulatory message to the President-elect of the Republic of Guinea Bissau, Dr. Malam Bacai Sanhá.

The President of the Republic requested today from the Constitutional Court the preventive inspection of two provisions contained in Parliamentary Decree No. 343/X, which authorizes the Government to legislate on urban rehabilitation.

Farewlls in Salzburg Airport
The President of the Republic ended his Official Visit to Austria taking a walking tour, together with the Austrian Head of State, Heinz Fischer, through the old city of Salzburg, and took the cable car to view the local Castle.
