President received Season’s Greetings
The Prime Minister and members of the Government were received by the President of the Republic, to whom they presented the Season’s Greetings.
The President of the Republic decided not to enact the Parliamentary bill which revoked the rules that created and determined the value of compensation rates for access to hospitalization or surgical acts for out-patients.
Regarding this decision, the Presidency of the Republic publishes the following communiqué:

Having received, to be enacted in law, Parliamentary Decree No. 1/XL, which revokes article No. 148 of Law No. 53-A/2006, dated 29 December, «State Budget for 2007», which creates compensation rates for access to hospitalization and for surgical acts for out-patients, and revokes article No. 160 of Law No. 64-A/2008, dated 31 December, «State Budget for 2009», which alters the value of the compensation rate for surgical acts for our-patients, I have decided, in the terms of article 136 of the Constitution of the Republic, not to enact the said bill, based upon the following:
Meeting in Belém
In the terms of the Constitution and the legislation in force, the President of the Republic received today the Minister of Justice to decide upon the traditional pardons granted at this time of the year.
Christmas in the Palace of Belém
The staff of the Presidency of the Republic and their families took part in a Christmas Party held in the Palace of Belém, which included the presentation of the musical show “The Wizard of Oz”, by the Filipe La Feria theatrical company, on show in the Politeama Theatre.
Councillor Lúcio Barbosa received in Belém
The President of the Republic received, in audience, the President of the Supreme Administrative Court, Councillor Lúcio Alberto Assunção Barbosa.
Parliamentary representation in Belém
President Aníbal Cavaco Silva received the compliments of the Season from the Speaker, the Deputy-Speakers and the Parliamentary Party Leaders.
Exhibition “Macau: Meeting of Cultures”
The President of the Republic took part in the evocative ceremony of the 10th anniversary of the transfer of the Portuguese administration of Macau and opened the exhibition “Macau: Meeting of Cultures”, held in the Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon.
"Os Francisquinhos"
President Cavaco Silva visited the “Os Francisquinhos” Association (Association of Parents and Friends of the Children in St. Francis Xavier Hospital.
The President of the Republic addressed a congratulatory message to Professor Cleonice Berardinelli, for having been elected to the Brazilian Academy of Letters.
