Ceremony in Batalha Monastery
The President of the Republic attended, in Batalha Monastery, the Commemoration Ceremonies of the Day of the Combatant and of the 92nd anniversary of the Battle of La Lys, at which he presided and addressed an evocative speech. on the occasion, the President laid a wreath of flowers on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The President of the Republic, who will carry out a State Visit to the Czech Republic next week, received in the palace of Belém a group of Czech students currently in Portugal under the auspices of the Erasmus Programme.

Meeting of the SCND
The Supreme Council for National Defence held an ordinary scheduled meeting under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic.
At the end of the meting, which took place in the Palace of Belém, a communiqué was read by the Secretary of the Council, General João Goulão de Melo.

The President of the Republic received, in audience, Euro MP Prof. Doctor Maria do Céu Patrão Neves, who handed him the European Parliamentary report she had issued on the Green Book on Common Fisheries Policy.
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva will carry out a State Visit to the Czech Republic, at the invitation of President Vaclav Klaus, from 14 to 16 April next.

The President of the Republic received, in audience, the Chairman of the Society of Engineers, Eng. Fernando Santo.
The President of the Republic issued today an official order appointing as members of the Organizing Committee for the Celebrations of the National Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, chaired by Doctor António Barreto, Prof. Doctor Nuno Manuel Gonçalves Júdice Glória, Prof. Doctor João Pinto Guerreiro, Dr. João Manuel Raminhos Leitão and Dr. Pedro Rapoula.
