Camões Prize awarded to Arménio Vieira
The Presidents of the Republics of Portugal and Brazil, Aníbal Cavaco Silva and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, handed the Camões Prize to the Cape Verde author Arménio Vieira, at a ceremony held in the National Coach Museum.
Arrival in Belém
The President of the Republic held a meeting, in the Palace of Belém, with the Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who had travelled to Lisbon to attend the X Luso-Brazilian Summit.
The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of Horácio Roque.

The President of the Republic received, in audience, maestro Álvaro Cassuto.
Dinner in the Palace of Belém
The President of the Republic hosted, in the Palace of Belém, a dinner in honour of the representatives of the Council of Europe and former laureates of the North-South Prize, on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the North-South Centre of the Council, headquartered in Lisbon.
President at the Prize award
The President of the Republic attended, in the House of Parliament, the award ceremony of the North-South Prize of the Council of Europe to the Kuwaiti activist Rola Dashti and to the former Russian President Mikhail Gorbatchev. The latter individuality was represented by Ambassador Alexander Alekseev.
President’s Declaration
The President of the Republic announced the enactment of the Parliamentary Bill which allows the marriage between persons of the same gender, and issued a declaration in which he put forward his opinion concerning this legislation.
Maria do Céu da Conceição received in Belém
The President of the Republic received, in audience, Maria do Céu da Conceição, an Emirates Airlines air hostess, founder of the Dhaka Project (a children’s aid organization in Bangladesh) and who was elected Woman of the Year in the United Arab Emirates.
The President of the Republic will issue a declaration concerning the Parliamentary Bill that allows marriage between people of the same gender today, at 20.15 hours, in the Palace of Belém.
Awarding Cup to F.C. Porto
The President of the Republic attended, in the National Stadium, the Portuguese Football Cup Final, and awarded the trophy to the winning team, Futebol Clube do Porto, who won the match against Grupo Desportivo de Chaves by 2-1.
