The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of Academician Aníbal Pinto de Castro.
Following is the text of the message addressed by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:
Visit to the new Social centre
The President of the Republic presided at the inaugural act, in Arcos de Valdevez, of the “Vilagerações” Integrated Social Centre of the local Holy Almshouse, and visited the Cerqueira Gomes Home, dedicated to childhood and youth, and the building housing the continuous care unit.
Ceremony in the Valença County Hall
The President of the Republic visited the county of Valença, where he was received at a solemn session in the County Council, viewed a commemorative exhibition of the centenary of the proclamation of the Republic in the Museum Centre, and presided at the inaugural act of the Cerdal Parish kindergarten.
New Educational Centres
During a visit to Vila Verde, the President of the Republic officially opened the Educational Centres of the capital of the County and of Monsignor Elísio de Araújo, in Vila Pico de Regalados, and the Oleiros Business Centre.
President in Maia County
The President of the Republic presided at the inaugural act, in Maia County, of the Vermoim-Gueifães Educational Centre.
Ceremony in Porto City Council
The President of the Republic attended the ceremony held by the Porto City Council in which tributes were paid to the King of Spain and to the President of the Italian Republic, on the occasion of their presence in Porto for the VI Meeting of Cotec Europe.
Heads of State at the Cotec Meeting
The President of the Republic, King Juan Carlos of Spain and President Giorgio Napolitano of Italy, attended in Casa da Música, Porto, the closure of the VI Cotec Europe Meeting.
Arrival at Clube Portuense
On the occasion of the VI Cotec Meeting, which is being held in Porto, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva hosted dinner in the Clube Portuense for King Juan Carlos of Spain.
Solemn Changing of the Guard
The celebrations of the centenary of the establishing of the Republic and the programme of commemorating activities led to the Palace of Belém, again open to the public on 5 October, more than 20,000 people.
Closure with Mariza
During the Commemorations of the Centenary of the Establishment of the Republic in the Palace of Belém, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva attended several concerts included in the programme, all of which were open to the public.
