The Supreme Council for National Defence met, in an ordinary session, presided over by the President of the Republic.
A Communiqué was published at the end of the meeting, which was held in the Palace of Belém.

Dinner held in the Palace of the Cascais Citadel
On he occasion of the State Visit to Portugal of the President of the People’s Republic of São Tomé and Principe, President and Mrs. Cavaco Silva hosted a dinner in the Palace of the Cascais Citadel, at the beginning of which speeches were addressed by both President Cavaco Silva and his counterpart.
The President of the Republic, after hearing the political parties represented in the Region’s Parliament, has set the date of 14 October 2012 for the elections to be held for the Legislative Assembly of the Azores Autonomous Region.
Manuel Pinto da Costa em Visita de Estado
At the beginning of his State Visit to Portugal, the President of the People’s Republic of S. Tomé and Principe, Manuel Pinto da Costa, was welcomed in the Palace of Belém by the President of the Republic.
The President of the Republic sent a congratulatory message to the new president of the Republic of India, Pranab Mukherjee, upon the beginning of his taking office.

Bernardette Ségol received in Belém
The President of the Republic received, in audience, the Secretary General of the European Trade Union Confederation, Bernardette Ségol, accompanied by representatives of the two Portuguese Trade Union Federations (UGT and CGTP-IN).
The President of the Republic took the decision, in line with article No. 136 of the Constitution, not to enact Parliamentary Decree No. 60/XII, relative to the Lisbon administrative reorganization, and returned the respective bill to Parliament for reconsideration.

Having received, on 11 July 2012, to be enacted as law, Parliamentary Decree No. 60/XII relative to the administrative reorganization of Lisbon, I have decided, in the terms of article No. 136 of the Constitution, not to enact this bill, based upon the following premises:
