Meeting of the SCND
The Supreme Council for National Defence held an extraordinary meeting, presided over by the President of the Republic.
At the end of the meeting, held in the Palace of Belém, the following communiqué was issued:
Enthroning of Pope Francis
The President of the Republic attended, in Vatican City, the celebratory ceremonies of the beginning of the Pontificate of Pope Francis.
Meting in Rome
The President of the Republic, on his visit to Rome to attend the ceremonies initiating the Pontificate of Pope Francis, met, in the Church of St. Anthony, the Portuguese clerics residing in the Italian capital.
The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of Professor Mário Murteira.

Ansiães Castle
The President of the Republic visited the apple processing centre of the Frucar Company and the Interpretative Centre of the Castle of Carrazeda de Ansiães during a visit held in the Council.
Visit to Sousacamp
The President of the Republic visited, in Vila Flor county, the Sousacamp mushroom producing facility and the Integrated Continuous Care Unit of the Holy Almshouse.
A walk round Torre de Moncorvo
The President of the Republic presided at the inaugural act of the Torre de Moncorvo Sacred Art Museum and visited the town’s Memorial Centre and Mediaeval Fair that is currently being held.
The President of the Republic addressed a message of congratulations to the President of the Chinese People’s Republic, Xi Jinping.

The President of the Republic received, in audience, the Chief of the Armed Forces General Staff, General Luís Evangelista Esteves Araújo.
The President of the Republic addressed a message of congratulations to Pope Francis, following his being chosen as Head of the Catholic Church.
