At the beginning of the State Visit he is carrying out in Portugal, the President of the East Timor Peoples’ Republic, Taur Matan Ruak, held a meeting, in the Palace of Belém, with President Cavaco Silva.
After laying a wreath on the tomb of Luis Vaz de Camões, in Jerónimos Monastery, the President of the East Timor Peoples’ Republic was received with military honours in the Palace of Belém.
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva held a private meeting with the Timorese President and his Wife, Mrs. Isabel da Costa Ferreira, this being followed by an enlarged meeting between both Heads of State and their retinues.
At the end of this working meeting both Presidents held a press conference.
