Visit in Mafra
The President of the Republic visited, in Mafra, the Army School of Arms, where he viewed the training activities of cadets, sergeants and men in field exercises and demonstrations of training in several military specialities, namely that of combat in built up areas.
Accompanied by the Minister of National Defence, by the Assistant Secretary of State and for National Defence and by the Chief of the Army General Staff, President Cavaco Silva attended a briefing on the School of Arms and carried out visits to an exhibition of research and development projects and to the Equine Military Veterinary Clinic.
The School of Arms, which resulted from Army restructuring, is the legatee of six units: the five former Practical Schools (Infantry, Artillery, Cavalry, Engineering and Transmissions) and the Military Centre for Physical Training and Sports.
