The President of the Republic has decided to decorate a number of former Mayors, thus recognizing the irreplaceable role played by Portuguese local authorities for the development of our country and for the strengthening of territorial cohesion.
The following former Mayors will be awarded the grade of Commander of the Order of Merit.

- António Mendes, from Constância
- Artur Pimentel, from Vila Flor
- Carlos Pinto, from Covilhã
- Carlos Encarnação, from Coimbra
- Eufrázio Filipe, from Seixal
- Francisco Leal, from Olhão
- Francisco Coutinho, from Batalha
- Francisco Araújo, from Arcos de Valdevez
- João Augusto Barradas, from Peniche
- João Teixeira Fernandes, from Murça
- Manuel Frexes, from Fundão
- Maria Amélia Antunes, from Montijo
- Narciso Mota, from Pombal
- Parcídio Summavielle, from Fafe
The decoration ceremony will be held in the Palace of Belém, on 13 February instant, at 11:30 hours.
