Meeting with the Justice Minister
In the terms of the Constitution and of the legislation in force, the President of the Republic received today the Minister of Justice to consider the granting of pardons, a tradition in this season of the year.
The number of requested grants this year amounted to 1,224.
Considering the views of the Magistrates of the Penal Courts, of the Directors of Prison Establishments, of the reports of the penal services and of the social reinsertion offices, the President of the Republic decided to grant 3 pardons of deportation sentences.
The granted measures of clemency were mainly based on humanitarian reasons.
It should anyway be stressed that the decisions taken on the remaining appraisals took into consideration that the respective requests did not fulfil the required conditions.
