The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of Prof. José Veiga Simão
Following is the text of the message from President Cavaco Silva:
“Upon being advised of the passing away of Prof. José Veiga Simão, I address the bereaved Family my heartfelt condolences.
Endowed with extraordinary intelligence, José Veiga Simão stood out through the clear-sighted way in which, for decades, he drew up his interventions in Portuguese public affairs.
He brought together his exceptional intellectual qualities with a reformist and non-conformist spirit, with his intent that Portugal should become a more developed country, especially in the field of higher education.
Professor Veiga Simão is an example of service to the public cause and civic patriotism, which should be a model and an inspiration to all Portuguese.
