With respect to the news item, published today by the weekly Expresso newspaper, according to which Dr. Basílio Horta had not been invited to attend the pubic act of decoration of individualities that had achieved distinction in the internationalization of the Portuguese economy, held in the Palace of Belém on 30 April ultimo, the Presidency of the Republic makes clear that:
1. The decoration ceremony in the Palace of Belém is an official act for which no invitations are issued by the Presidency of the Republic. The usual procedure is that the decorated individualities invite family members and friends to attend.
2. Dr. Basílio Horta was decorated, in 2006, with the Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator.
