As disclosed at the beginning of December 2013, the Presidency of the Republic decided to celebrate the 40th anniversary of April 25th 1974 with an International Conference which will have as its theme the Routes of April, focused upon the Spirit of Democracy, the Culture of Commitment and the Challenges of Development.
Held within the scope of the Routes to the Future initiative, launched in 2012 by the President of the Republic, this will be the third international conference intended to develop conceptual thoughts concerning the great challenges that are placed to Portuguese society. In 2014, and celebrating April in its 40th anniversary, the Portuguese will be asked to reflect on the new paths which are intended to be tread, in order to materialize the spirit that presided at the institution of democracy in Portugal.
The model of the conference will retain the recourse to the confrontation of perspectives of those who, from abroad, view Portugal and of those who, in the country, have developed innovative and prospective thought on the issues facing Portuguese society. As such, each panel will contain a foreign guest and a Portuguese guest, who will approach the three topical nuclei, identified here by the Routes of April: Democracy, Commitment and Development.
The International Conference “Portugal, Routes of April”, will be held on 9 and 10 May next, in the auditorium of the Champalimaud Foundation, Lisbon.
