Granting of pardons

President of the Republic granted traditional Christmas Seasonal pardons

In the terms of the Constitution and the applicable legislation, the President of the Republic received today the Minister of Justice in order to consider the traditional seasonal granting of pardons.

Put up for consideration, this year, were 251 requests.

Considering the views of the Magistrates of the Penalty Courts, of the Directors of the Prison Establishments, of the reports of the detention departments and services of social reinsertion, and equally the Governmental proposals, the President of the Republic decided to grant 2 pardons – one regarding a prison sentence and one of penalty of expulsion.

Humanitarian and social reasons were the bases for the granting of measures of clemency.

Lastly, it is underlined that the decision taken over the remaining requests for pardon that did not fulfil the required conditions, took into consideration the unfavourable views put forward by the above authorities.
