The President of the Republic addressed a message of congratulations to the President of the Chinese People’s Republic, Xi Jinping.
Following is the text of the congratulatory message from President Cavaco Silva:
“Mr. President, Excellency,
On the occasion of Your Excellency’s election as President of the People’s Republic of China, I wish to convey, in my own name and on behalf of the Portuguese People, our warmest congratulations and wishes for success in the exercise of the duties which have been entrusted to you.
Portugal and China share a historic and dynamic relationship of friendship, respect and trust, consolidated today in a major strategic cooperation, at multiples levels. I am certain that, during this mandate, Your Excellency will find renewed opportunities for further strengthening of the special ties of friendship and co-operation that unite our two countries. Your Excellency may rest assured of my personal commitment towards this goal, in the belief that the continued strengthening of the partnership between Portugal and China corresponds to the expectation and the best interests of our Peoples and countries.
Reiterating my warmest congratulations and looking forward to meeting you in the near future, I ask Your Excellency to accept my best wishes for your personal wellbeing and happiness and for the increasing progress of the friendly People of China.
