Granting of remissions

President of the Republic granted the traditional Christmas season remissions

In the terms of the Constitution and in line with the legislation in force, the President of the Republic received today the Justice Minister in order to grant the traditional seasonal remissions.

Requests assessed this year in order to grant remissions numbered 205.

Considering the views of the Magistrates of the Penal Courts, of the Directorate General of Prisons, of the Directors of the Prison Establishments and of the Director General for Social Reinsertion, and in line with the proposals put forward by the Government, the President of the Republic decided to grant two remissions – one of prison penalty and another of banishment penalty.

The measures of clemency granted were based primarily on humanitarian reasons.

Lastly, it should be emphasized that the decisions covering the remaining requests for remission took into consideration the number of unfavourable views issued by the authorities, which did not comply with the required conditions.
