Following the programme of the commemorations of the National Day of Portugal, of Camões and of the Portuguese Communities, the President of the Republic honoured Bocage, depositing a wreath of flowers on the monument to the poet, received military honours and took part in a ceremony in the Setúbal City Hall during which he was awarded the city’s gold medal.
When leaving the City Hall, the President assisted a performance of a children’s choir and, in the external arcades of the building, witnessed a replica of a school room where teachers and students transcribed verses of Chapter II of the “Lusíadas”.
