Note from the Presidency of the Republic

The Presidency of the Republic publishes the following Note:
"Following the speech delivered on 16 March, at the Opening of the Judicial Year, in which he formulated the assumptions on which the Judicial reform should be based, the President of the Republic held a working lunch today, with the following responsible officers in the Justice area: President of the Supreme Court of Justice, President of the Supreme Administrative Court, Attorney General, President of the Law Society, President of the Associative Union of Portuguese Magistrates, and President of the Union of the Public Prosecution Magistrates.
With this meeting, the President of the Republic intended to contribute towards the creation of a climate of appeasement and constructive dialogue and cooperation between the officers of the judiciary and the political powers. The President of the Republic appealed for the materialization of a deep reform in the functioning of the system of Justice and for the establishment of commitments, in the area of the judicial system, assumed by Portugal within the scope of the financial aid programme negotiated with the European Union."
