Visit of State to Portugal of the President of the People’s Republic of China

The President of the People’s Republic of China, Hu Jintao, carries out a State Visit to Portugal, on 6 and 7 November, accompanied by his Wife, Mrs LiuYongqing, in answer to an invitation from President Aníbal Cavaco Silva.

The retinue of President Hu Jintao includes members of the Chinese Government, as well as a deputation of approximately fifty entrepreneurs.

The official programme will commence with the laying of a wreath of flowers on the tomb of Luís de Camões, in the Jerónimos Monastery, after which President Hu Jintao and his Wife will be received by the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva, in the Palace of Belém, where a working meeting between the two Heads of State will take place.

In the afternoon of 6 November, President Hu Jintao will be received, in audience, by the Speaker of the House of Parliament.

The programme for the first day of the Visit will end with a State Banquet in the Palace of Ajuda, hosted by the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva, in honour of the President of the People’s Republic of China and his Wife.
On the morning of 7 November, President Hu Jintao will hold a meeting with the Prime Minister, in Necessidades Palace, where a luncheon will take place, hosted by the Head of Government, in the honour of the President of the People’s Republic of China and his retinue.

The economic part of the programme of the Visit will comprise a Seminar promoted by AICEP and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, presided by the Portuguese Minister for Economy and by the Chinese Minister for Trade, with the participation of entrepreneurs of both countries.
