President Cavaco Silva addressed condolences to the Family of Henrique de Senna Fernandes

The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of the Macau born lawyer, professor and writer Henrique de Senna Fernandes.

Following is the text of President Aníbal Cavaco Silva’ message:

“On behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, I address heartfelt condolences to the Family of Henrique de Senna Fernandes, one of Macau’s notable individuals, to whom the local literature, education and advocacy are much indebted.

Scion of an ancient Macau family who was educated in Portugal, Henrique de Senna Fernandes, lawyer – he was the doyen amongst colleagues –, early understood his vocation for the paths to which he dedicated himself more: as a teacher and a writer. As a teacher he presided at the Association for the Promotion of Education for the People of Macau, and wrote many short stories picturing ancient Macau, some of which were produced as films.

At the moment of his passing away, it is with deep regret that I pay my tribute to an exceptional man and to the unequalled individuality that accompanied successive generations of Portuguese, people of Macau and Chinese, and who is an eternal reference of Macau’s identity.

Aníbal Cavaco Silva"
