Decoration of the Special Operations Troop Centre
The President of the Republic presided, in Lamego, at the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Special Operations Unit, which he decorated with the degree of Honorary Member of the Military Order of Avis.
During the ceremony, where speeches were delivered by the Commander of the Special Operations Troop Centre and by the Mayor of Lamego, an address was also delivered by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva, after which the forces on parade marched past the Tribune.
After the march past, the President and Mrs. Cavaco Silva visited an exhibition allusive to the 50 years of the Special Operations Unit in Lamego.
The ceremony, where the Minister for National Defence and the Chief of the Army General Staff were also present, as well as other civil, military and religious individualities, included a tribute to the soldiers who had died in combat, and equally comprised the celebration of the 171st anniversary of the continuous military presence in the city.
