President Cavaco Silva addressed a message of condolences upon the passing away of actor António Feio

The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of actor António Feio.

Following is the text of the message sent by President Cavaco Silva:

"It was with great regret that I received the news of the passing away of António Feio, a well known and loved figure of the Portuguese, whom I had the opportunity to pay a tribute to on World Theatre Day, and whose disappearance leaves a great emptiness amongst all who followed and were familiar with him.

On behalf of the People of Portugal and in my wife’s and my own name, I address our deepest condolences to the Family of the actor and theatre director who, through his lengthy career and the way he influenced the new generations of actors, became a prominent figure of Portuguese theatre, cinema and television, and cherished by them throughout all those years.

It is thus very fair that, in this hour of mourning, I should pay my tribute to a man of such great human and artistic qualities that attracted the respect of all who followed his personal and professional career.

Aníbal Cavaco Silva"
