President congratulates Chilean counterepart Sebastián Piñera for his election to office

The President of the Republic addressed a congratulatory message to the President of the Republic of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, for his election to office.

Following is the text of the message from President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:

"Mister President Elect,

On the occasion of Your Excellency’s election as President of the Republic of Chile, I wish to address you, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our warmest congratulations and best wishes for your success in the office you have been called upon to perform.

I recall with special satisfaction the meeting I had the opportunity to hold with Your Excellency during my Official Visit to Chile, in November 2007, which I remember with great pleasure. I am convinced that during Your Excellency’s mandate, the close relations of friendship and cooperation which exist between Portugal and Chile will continue to be deepened and developed, for the benefit of both our peoples and countries.

Renewing my wishes for personal well being and for the prosperity and progress of the People of Chile, I beg you to accept, Mister President elect, my very highest regards.

Aníbal Cavaco Silva"
