Meeting in Belém
In the terms of the Constitution and the legislation in force, the President of the Republic received today the Minister of Justice to decide upon the traditional pardons granted at this time of the year.
The 238 proposals for the granting of pardon were considered this year:
In line with the views put forward by the Magistrates of the Sentencing Courts, by the Directorate General of Prisons, by the Directors of the Prison Establishments and by the Directorate General of Social Re-insertion, and also in accordance with the processes construed within the scope of the Ministry of Justice, the President of the Republic decided to award 8 pardons: 4 in respect of partial reduction of prison sentences and 4 revoking sentences of expulsion.
Humanitarian reasons and those with respect of social reinsertion were the bases of the clemency measures granted.
