The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of journalist Vítor Direito and to the Editors of the newspaper "Correio da Manhã".

Following is the text of the message:

“On behalf of the people of Portugal and in my own personal name, I address my condolences on the passing away of Dr. Vítor Direito, a greatly respected figure and a great name in Portuguese journalism, who helped to establish several press organizations and marked many generations of journalists.

He had a great love for journalism and was a sound, forward looking and irreverent person, with a great sense of independence.

Even in the difficult and adverse times lived in Portuguese society he was always a stringent professional who showed great courage.

I present my heartfelt regrets to the Family of journalist Dr. Vítor Direito and to the Editors of newspaper “Correio da Manhã”, of which he was a founder.
