In the terms of the Constitution and of current legislation, the President of the Republic received the Minister of Justice today, for the concession of the traditional seasonal reprieves.
Requests for reprieves, in the current year, numbered 351.
After considering the views of the Magistrates of the Sentencing Courts, of the Directorate General of Prisons, of the Directors of the Prison Establishments and of the General Directorate of Social Reinsertion, and in accordance with the procedures prepared within the Ministry of Justice, the President of the Republic decided to award 5 reprieves – 4 partial prison sentence reductions and one repeal of a sentence of deportation.
The grounds for the grants of clemency were based upon humanitarian and social recovery.
